Mongala: Judith Suminwa calls for national unity as the foundation for development

Kinshasa, February 2nd, 2026 (CPA).– Prime Minister Judith Suminwa called on Monday for national unity as the foundation for development during her tour of this part of the country, according to a press release. She addressed the people of the village of Ngonzi, in the territory of Bongandanga, in the province of Mongala (northwest of the Democratic Republic of Congo). “Judith Suminwa Tuluka also emphasized peaceful coexistence between communities, calling for national unity as the foundation for development. This is a strong message to preserve social peace and support the momentum for development driven by the President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo,” read a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office. According to the source, in the face of recurring security challenges, the Congolese Head of Government recalled the gradual establishment of provincial and local security committees, a participatory governance approach aimed at strengthening trust between the population, the Congolese National Police (PNC), and the administrative authorities. According to the statement, the Prime Minister also announced the imminent start of maintenance work on the 125-kilometer-long provincial road No. 309, linking Ngonzi to Bongandanga-centre. She also said that the Roads Authority plans to build nearly 70 bridges, with technical studies already completed.  Other projects announced include work on the RN6 (Bongandanga–Akula) and the acquisition of river ferries, a series of initiatives designed to open up the center of the country on a lasting basis.

Launching of modernization work in the city of Bumba

In her address to the population of the city of Bumba, in the same province, the Congolese Head of Government also called for the preservation of territorial integrity and collaboration between the population and the security forces. She gave assurances that sensitive issues would be resolved imminently.

“I call for national unity. The population and the police must work together to defend the country. The President of the Republic has instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to settle the issue of arrears for retirees and civil servants. The dollar shortage will also be resolved, as will the electricity problem,” Ms. Suminwa said in the statement. The Prime Minister also outlined her vision for the DRC government, particularly in terms of infrastructure. “We must provide you with the infrastructure necessary to modernize the city. It is through development that the country will improve. Six bridges will also be modernized. We ask you to protect your families by leaving the risk areas. I have asked the Governor to identify all those affected in order to compensate them and to begin work on protecting the river quay without delay,” said the Prime Minister.

Earlier, upon disembarking from the plane, the Head of Government made her way from the airport to Avenue du Port, where she inspected the riverbanks, which are threatened by worrying erosion.  Erosion protection work will be carried out there to safeguard the riverside homes and the territorial administration office, whose integrity is compromised.
