DRC: Launching of the second advanced course on Mpox in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, October 6th, 2025 (CPA).– The second advanced course on Mpox, organized by the International Global Health Research Platform (PRISME RDC) from October 6 to 11 at the National Institute for Biomedical Research (INRB), was launched on Monday in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), by the representative of the Minister of Higher Education, Academia, Scientific Research, and Technological Innovation. “This course is not just a training program, it is a platform for reflection, accountability, and mutual reinforcement that will enable our researchers, clinicians, public health officials, and partners to progress together,” said Professor Hilaire Makindu, Chief of Staff to the Minister.

According to him, the knowledge and skills acquired here will strengthen the health system as well as the credibility and position of Congolese research in regional and international scientific networks. He noted that, given its history and experience in managing epidemics, the DRC has much to share with the world, but also much to learn from others. “One reason why we must provide the necessary weapons to all those who need them to deal with this international threat,” he said, justifying the framework within which Prisme organized this second international training course on Mpox.

The second advanced course on Mpox brought together various experts from different provincial health divisions (DPS) in the DRC, namely Kwango, Kwilu, Maniema, Lualaba, and Kasai. It also saw participation from countries in Central and West Africa, as well as other countries in Europe. These included Guinea Conakry, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, Switzerland, and the DRC.
