Kinshasa, June 8th, 2026 (CPA).- AS Maniema Union of Kindu, in Maniema Province, central-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has become the third club to defeat TP Mazembe at Kamalondo Stadium in the National Football League (Linafoot), according to competition statistics consulted on Monday by CPA. Maniema Union achieved the feat on Sunday during Matchday 10 of the play-offs of the 31st National Championship. The visitors took a 2-0 lead through goals scored by Benny Namboka in the 63rd minute and Bakadi Kabangu in the 75th minute. TP Mazembe pulled one goal back in stoppage time when goalkeeper Marc Diouf converted a penalty kick.
Simba, the first club to conquer Mazembe at Kamalondo
According to ACP archives, TP Mazembe Stadium officially opened on September 12th, 2012, with an emphatic 5-0 Linafoot victory over OC Muungano of Bukavu, South Kivu. It took almost four years before the home side suffered its first defeat at the venue. On November 2nd, 2016, AS Simba of Kolwezi, coached by the late Andy Mfutila, stunned the Ravens with a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Musans in the 32nd minute and Kalumba in the 34th minute. Mazembe managed to reduce the deficit through Ghanaian striker Adjei in the 79th minute.
Lupopo also claimed a historic victory
While Kinshasa giants V.Club and DC Motema Pembe have never celebrated a victory at Kamalondo, often regarded as their footballing graveyard, local rivals Saint Eloi Lupopo had long shared the same football environment as Mazembe.
Eventually, Lupopo broke the curse with a historic 1-0 victory on May 8th, 2025, courtesy of Jonathan Mokonzi’s 60th-minute strike. The exclusive list of clubs to have defeated TP Mazembe at Kamalondo has now expanded to three: AS Simba, Saint Eloi Lupopo and AS Maniema Union. Although AS Simba’s historic victory was later converted into a forfeiture result, it remains remembered as the first team to overcome the Englebertois in their own fortress, built on the site of the former Mwanke Stadium, donated by the late Marshal Mobutu Sese Seko, former President of what was then Zaire, in recognition of TP Mazembe’s continental achievements.
