Kinshasa, October 6th, 2026 (CPA).- The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, has reinforced the National Pedagogical University (UPN) with three new modern buildings, constructed by the Government, during a ceremony organized on Tuesday at the university’s headquarters in Kinshasa.
“In this month of October 2026, you are here to hand over to us the keys to three modern buildings that will increase our university’s capacity,” has declared Yvonne Ibebeke, rector of the UPN, in her speech, in the presence of the President of the Republic. She has thanked the Head of State for the attention given to her institution through these various projects, made possible thanks to his personal involvement and the Government’s commitment to the completion of a project planned since 2021. “In 2023, you have honoured us on two occasions, in May and December respectively, for the handover of the first renovated buildings,” she has indicated, referring in particular to the student halls of residence and two buildings housing several lecture theatres. The rector has also reminded us that in July 2025, the President of the Republic had officially handed over the Rectorate building and the sports complex, both built to international standards. Regarding the buildings handed over on Tuesday, Professor Ibebeke has explained that two buildings had been completely refurbished and modernised. The first, a fourth-floor building, will house the offices of the general secretaries, whilst the second will accommodate the faculties’ offices and laboratories. The third building, newly constructed, comprises lecture theatres.
The UPN called upon to preserve its new facilities
“These buildings join those already in operation on our campus. Step by step, they are enabling the National Pedagogical University to modernise sustainably and establish itself as one of our country’s leading institutions,” the Rector has emphasised. She has expressed her gratitude to the President of the Republic, the Government, the Ministry in charge of Higher Education, Universities, Scientific Research and Innovation (ESURSI), the technical services and all those who have contributed to the completion of these facilities, calling on the entire university community to preserve this heritage. “It is the duty of all of us – managers, teachers, researchers, administrative staff, technicians, workers and students – to use this heritage wisely, to protect it and to ensure its upkeep,” she has insisted.
