Kinshasa, September 21st, 2026 (CPA). – A book chronicling the life of Congolese athlete Miguel Masaisai, who died on September 18th in Congo-Brazzaville, has just been published by Lumumba 2026 in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga (south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo) by the writer Valery Ngoy, the CPA learnt on Monday from an academic source.
“The title of the book is *A Hero on the Road to Peace: Miguel Masaisai*, published by Lumumba 2026, comprising 111 pages, which are freely available on ‘Afriscience’.” This book traces the exceptional journey of Miguel Masaisai, a young Congolese man dedicated to cycling and a bearer of a message of peace, unity and solidarity. Afriscience highlights, in particular, his journey from Goma to Cape Town in 2025, followed by his continental project ‘Pedals for Peace’ in 2026,” wrote Valery Ngoy, a teacher and the book’s author. “Immortalising our heroes through writing is an essential exercise in collective memory,” he added, going on to say that this book traces the exceptional journey of a young Congolese man born in Goma (in Nord-Kivu province in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo) in 2003, in an environment marked by conflict, displacement and natural hazards.Ngoy Ndala has indicated that
“From his entry into cycling in 2018 to his international performances, Miguel Masaisai has gradually built an identity based on endurance, discipline and commitment. His journey from Goma to Cape Town in 2025 transforms the bicycle into a symbol of national representation and dignity.h In 2026, his ‘Pedals for Peace’ project takes on a continental dimension: he sets off on the 14,000- kilometre route to Rabat, with the aim of conveying a message of peace, unity and solidarity in support of DRC’.
The author has specified that Miguel’s cycling journey through Congo-Brazzaville, marked by encounters and human solidarity, came to a tragic end in Kabos on September 18th, 2026. According to him, Miguel will not reach Rabat, but his message continues on its way.
Valery Ngoy Ndala is also a publisher and president of the Pan-African Association for Youth Mentoring and Training, as well as a researcher on issues relating to youth, education, entrepreneurship, Africa, digital technology, the environment and development. CPA/
