Kinshasa, September 3rd, 2025 (CPA). – The challenges of recruiting and training staff in companies in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were explained on Wednesday by the General Director of Congo Business and an employment facilitator in Kinshasa, the country’s main city, in an interview with the CPA. Companies face several major challenges when it comes to recruiting and training staff.
“The first challenge is recruitment itself, particularly in a context where unemployment is high and companies receive a large number of Curriculum Vitae (CVs), » has said Linda Endundo, employment facilitator and general manager of Congo Business. She pointed out that personal placement agencies have been set up to overcome these challenges, but they are faced with the persistent problem of ‘tracking’. ‘Most human resources (HR) officers or placement agencies tend to favour candidates they know personally, rather than selecting the most suitable candidates for the positions’, she has complained. The second challenge, in her view, is candidate selection. Companies that seek to avoid ‘tracking’ run the risk of selecting candidates who are not reliable, explaining that ‘When it is difficult to check the background of candidates, this can lead to the hiring of people with bad intentions’, she has added. She also pointed out that the third challenge is training.
« The level of staff in general has fallen, both among secondary school and university graduates. Companies are therefore faced with a drop in the skill level of their employees« , has explained the facilitator. For Ms Endundo, these challenges are obstacles that companies must overcome to find and keep the best talent, while stressing the importance of developing effective recruitment and training strategies to deal with these difficulties.
