Kinshasa, June 30th, 2026 (CPA) – “The independence is not merely commemorated; it is earned through civic-mindedness,” has indicated the General Secretary of the Union of Associates United for the Renewal of Congolese Leadership (UARRLC), on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the independence of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, during an interview on Tuesday with CPA. “On this June 30th, it is true that we are celebrating the freedom won by our forefathers, but above all the duty that falls to us: to build a Republic that is fairer, stronger, more prosperous and, above all, indivisible. Independence is not merely something to be commemorated; it must be earned every day through civic-mindedness, hard work, integrity and love of country,” has declared Lawyer Merveille Mulamba, General Secretary-of the UARRLC. The lawyer Mulamba has called on the Congolese people to rekindle the flame of patriotism, recognising that we have only one homeland. “This day must rekindle the flame of patriotism in each and every one of us, recognising that we have only one homeland,” she has said. For Lawyer Mulamba, who is also the coordinator of the Synergie des jeunes femmes candidates (Synergy of young female candidates) (SJFC), the celebration of this day should be one of unity, but above all of national pride for all Congolese people around the world. On June 30th, the Congo won its independence from Belgium. Today, 66 years on, this national holiday takes place against a particular backdrop marked by the war of aggression in the east of the country, violence against civilians, forced displacement, the plundering of natural resources and economic predictions.
