Middle East: ‘If the United States respects the memorandum of understanding, Iran will honour its commitments’ (Iranian President)

Kinshasa, June 30th, 2026 (CPA/IRNA).- The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran has reaffirmed on Tuesday that his country would honour its obligations on the strict condition that the American side scrupulously complies with the memorandum of understanding drawn up between the two parties, the Iranian news agency has reported.

“The agreement is a bilateral matter. If the American side respects the memorandum of understanding, we will also honour our commitments,” has declared Massoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran. “In the face of unjustified cries for war and unfounded threats, we prioritise rationality and respect for human dignity in our decision-making and a resolute and courageous defence in our actions,” he has added. The recent agreement with the United States is a diplomatic achievement for the Iranian people.  Furthermore, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran has described the recent memorandum of understanding signed with the United States as “a success for the Iranian people in the field of diplomacy”.  He has, however, lamented, that certain factions, following in the wake of psychological operations carried out by hostile media, are seeking to undermine this achievement by attacking the negotiating team and questioning national decisions. Continuing his visit to Qom, President Massoud Pezeshkian has held a frank and detailed meeting lasting over two hours with members of the Teachers’ Society of the religious seminary in the holy city of Qom, near Tehran. He has outlined in detail the main developments, challenges, threats and strategic decisions facing the country over the past two years, highlighting the system’s major successes and achievements in the face of the enemies’ excessive demands and aggression.  The President has also praised the resilience of the Iranian people, the courageous defence by the armed forces, and the massive and influential mobilisation of the population in support of the country, describing them as a ‘golden page in the history of Iran’ and a source of honour and pride for the nation, both within the Muslim world and amongst freedom-loving peoples. Massoud Pezeshkian has, moreover, emphasised that throughout the negotiations, the government has continued to defend the rights of the Iranian people from a position of dignity, strength and the preservation of national interests, stating that it has not accepted, and would not under any circumstances accept, the demands imposed by the enemies. Finally, referring to the legal proceedings concerning the crimes committed by the United States and Israel against the Iranian people, the President has affirmed that the government is mobilising all national and international legal resources to prosecute these crimes and will not back down until the rights of the Iranian people have been secured.
