DRC: the judicial holidays do not mean a halt in services (A lawyer)

Kinshasa, August 24th, 2025 (CPA).- The judicial holidays do not mean that services in courts and tribunals come to a halt, a lawyer has pointed out during an interview on Saturday with CPA in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

« When asked whether all activities are suspended during this judicial holiday’s period, it should be noted that this question always comes up, even from our clients who think so. Certainly, the workload is lighter, but judicial holidays do not mean a cessation of services. We are still working, even if it is at a slower pace, » has explained Philippine Ngomeni, a lawyer at the Kinshasa-Matete Bar. According to this lawyer, during the judicial holidays, the courts and tribunals are open.

There are even hearings held, but these concern urgent cases and those involving minors, adding that less urgent cases are postponed until the judicial reopening.  She has, moreover, said that the time taken for proceedings and rulings on cases during the holidays may be longer than during normal times, adding that lawyers also follow up on certain cases during this period.  She has called on clients not to be discouraged from visiting law firms, as they will always find lawyers there.

‘I ask clients not to be discouraged from visiting law firms, as they will always find lawyers available for legal advice and any other proceedings,’ she has added.  She has, therefore, wished the judiciary and lawyers a happy holiday.    CPA/
