Kinshasa, December 16th, 2025 (CPA). – The Congolese Press Agency is determined to go fully digital in 2026 with its ‘news feed’ project and plans to discuss with the Prime Minister to request adequate funding through the collection of a licence fee, the Board of Directors of this public media outlet in the Democratic Republic of Congo has indicated on Tuesday during its meeting.
« For the future prospects for 2026, we have some areas that we will be focusing on. First, there is the strengthening of CPA’s financial autonomy. I am talking about the licence fee. We are continuing to advocate for this so that we can succeed. Because CPA will benefit from this licence fee during the year, which we will be launching in a few weeks’ time, » has declared Ali Kalonda, Chairman of CPA Board of Directors, at the end of the fourth ordinary session of this body. « And then there is the digital transition, i.e. the news feed. That is really our most fervent wish. And in the coming weeks, I will be received at the Prime Minister’s Office to try to request assistance from the Public Treasury. Although it has been included in the budget for 2026, we will try to hammer the point home so that the Prime Minister’s Office helps us to get the minimum we need to get started, » he has added.
For Mr Kalonda, this licence fee to finance the digitisation of CPA is crucial. « This is a major project that we have initiated and are continuing to pursue. It is on-going; it is the licence fee project. During 2026, this is something that will replenish our coffers. And now we are advocating for CPA, which until now was solely a print media company that we have transformed into a multimedia company. Because we now transmit information through sound, images and video, » he has explained.

During its fourth and final ordinary session of the year, the Board has focused particularly on evaluating 2025 and projections for 2026. « We have produced a summary of the year 2025. There have been three main areas of focus for the Board of Directors during 2025. One theme was governance. In this regard, we have begun by approving the mandate of the new administrator who had just joined us. (…) We have also made projections for 2026, » has indicated Mr Kalonda. The Board of Directors of the Congolese Press Agency holds four (4) ordinary sessions each year. CPA/
