DRC: ‘Truth and Reconciliation Commission’ project presented to the Human Rights Commission

Kinshasa, March 17th, 2026 (CPA). – The “Truth and Reconciliation Commission” project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), initiated by the Congolese Interfaith Council (CIC), has been presented, on Tuesday, to the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), during a meeting at the institution’s headquarters in Kinshasa. “We have come to present our interfaith organisation, the Congolese Interfaith Council (CIC), which is initiating the project of setting up a ‘Truth and Reconciliation Commission’ at the CNDH. This is an initiative that we are presenting to everyone since some time now,” has declared Archbishop Dodo Kamba, President of the CIC. And to add: “We have come to see Mr Paul Nsapu, President of the CNDH-DRC, to listen to him and ask for his support and approval. We are above all seeking his involvement given his enormous responsibilities in the country.” Pastor Kamba has also pointed out that this project includes aspects relating in particular to freedom and human rights, as well as elements of transitional justice. In his view, it has been entirely normal that the question of setting up the Truth and Reconciliation Commission should be of interest to the president of the CNDH-DRC and his entire team.

In addition to the advice received from the president of this institution, Archbishop Kamba has appreciated the openness and understanding of his interlocutor who, in his view, has a high regard for the servants of God who have formed this delegation. “We are well understood, and the President has not only guaranteed us his support but also his guidance. A direct partnership with religious leaders,” he has concluded. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission, according to one of its initiators, is working for a dialogue between the daughters and sons of the country. He has emphasised that this commission must be established to raise awareness, to establish the facts regarding the crimes that have been committed, so as to enable the perpetrators to make amends.
