Kinshasa, May 6th, 2026 (CPA).- The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has, during a press conference on Wednesday in Kinshasa with local and international media, noted that DRC-US agreement covers several areas of national life and not just mining.
“The Americans are interested not only in mining, but also in other areas: infrastructure, agriculture, health, hospital construction, the military, and the police. It is therefore a true partnership,” has declared Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mr. Tshisekedi, who was responding to a question about the population’s poverty in contrast to the country’s wealth, has noted that the Americans will come to help us to process minerals locally and to create other activities that generate wealth. He has, in this regard, asked his interlocutor not to jump to conclusions, noting that there are provinces that are poor and will be forgotten because they lack mineral resources. According to the president, the Congo is a blessing because all provinces have the assets to develop. “Bas-Uele, which you are referring to, already has gold mining operations. Our governor has discussed this with me, and he is in the process of establishing a provincial structure to support him in this endeavour,” has argued Felix Tshisekedi. Furthermore, the head of State has reminded us that the country is at war and that 30% of the budget is allocated to the army. “We must not forget that we are at war and that a significant portion of our resources goes toward funding our army, namely 30%, because without peace, I do not see how we can pursue development,” he has explained, before adding that “we must work together to achieve development.”
