Kinshasa, January 21st, 2026 (CPA). – The weekly inflation rate in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) stood at 0.15%, compared with 0.26% a week earlier, according to the latest economic indicators in the economic report of the Central Bank of Congo (BCC) consulted on Wednesday by the CPA.
‘On January 17th, 2026, the weekly inflation rate stood at 0.15% compared with 0.26% a week earlier, reflecting a continued slowdown in the pace of price formation observed since the end of last year’s festive season, against a backdrop of gradual normalization of domestic demand,’ according to the BCC’s economic report covering the period from January 9th to 16th, 2026. The change in weekly inflation remains mainly attributable to the consumption function ‘Food and non-alcoholic beverages’, whose contribution to the overall index stood at 52.6%, a sharp decline from the levels observed in previous weeks, reflecting an easing of pressure on food prices. Meanwhile, the contribution of the ‘Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ category rose to 22.1%, while ‘Transport’ contributed 10.0%. The ‘Restaurants and hotels’ and ‘Miscellaneous goods and services’ categories contributed 6.6% and 7.8% respectively to weekly inflation, confirming a moderate spread of inflationary pressures to certain non-food components. Inflation stood at 0.67% year-on-year and 2.31% month-on-month, compared with 0.63% and 11.22% respectively in the same period of 2025. This trend confirms a marked slowdown in price dynamics, reflecting an easing of inflationary pressures and a gradual strengthening of macroeconomic stability. ACP/
