Kinshasa, April 4th, 2026 (CPA).- A former Minister in charge of Scientific Research in the Democratic Republic of Congo has welcomed, on Monday, the US sanctions against the former President Joseph Kabila for his financial support of the M23 rebel group, during the submission of a memo to the US Embassy in Kinshasa by the presidential party. “We know that Mr Kabila was funding the M23. But today, we are grateful to President Trump, because he has prevented Mr Kabila from continuing to fund the M23. That is why we are happy and have come here to say thank you to the United States, in particular to Mr Donald Trump, for what he has done for the Congo. It will prevent him from continuing to supply these groups with weapons and funding, in order to end the war,” he has added. Mr Madimba has accompanied the UDPS delegation, led by its acting president Augustin Kabuya, who had come to submit a memorandum from the presidential party expressing its gratitude to the US administration for its decision to sanction former President Kabila. “We have come here, to the US Embassy, to thank Mr Donald Trump for what he has done for our country.

For him, the message from the UDPS delegation was clear and unambiguous: “We are grateful to you, particularly to Mr Trump, for what he has done for our country. We hope that further measures will be taken, but this is already a first step and we are satisfied with it.” He has, moreover, emphasised that the method of coming to power in a democratic State remains a peaceful political process without armed conflict. “The time for fighting is over.
Today, if you want to come to power, come, form your party, support President Felix Tshisekedi so that you can achieve this. But coming to wage war, never, never again, to come to power,” he has
