Kinshasa, September 29th, 2026 (CPA)-Donors and partners of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the response to the Ebola virus disease assessed on Tuesday the measures put in place at N’djili International Airport, in the eastern part of Kinshasa, CPA observed. “Our partners know that we are at an advanced stage of preparedness. This preparation phase allows us to assess our capacity to respond to a potential incident in the city of Kinshasa. We came with donors and partners, including the U.S. State Department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the World Health Organization (WHO), AFNET, Expertise France, Médecins Sans Frontières and, as the main partner, the Congolese Government, as well as the Kinshasa Provincial Health Division, whose senior officials came here to assess the progress of preparedness and the response capacity at N’djili International Airport,” said Mireille Lembwadio, coordinator of the National Border Hygiene Program (PNHF), the public service responsible for monitoring epidemics at the country’s borders. At N’djili International Airport, investments have been made through the establishment of health corridors, hand-washing facilities and essential supplies that have been pre-positioned. There are also medical ambulances and isolation containers in the domestic and international terminals, as well as at the terminal of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), where United Nations and humanitarian charter flights operate, the coordinator said.
“We came to assess how the system is functioning and identify additional needs in the province, at N’djili International Airport and at all control and entry points. We can give a very positive assessment, and we thank the Government, which made the initial contribution, as well as the partners that have supported the DRC. We will then look at how to improve the functioning of the systems and infrastructure that have been put in place, as well as the personnel and human resources who need to be protected and provided with appropriate equipment and materials, together with suitable motivation,” the coordinator said.Furthermore, Ms. Lembwadio commended the effective multisectoral coordination with the security services operating at Kinshasa airport as part of the Ebola response. The support provided by Airways Management Authority. (RVA), the public operator responsible for managing the country’s airports, was also highlighted by the PNHF coordinator.“Donors and partners have seen that the DRC is organizing its response to the disease in the most effective manner, with innovative equipment and measures,” the coordinator said, adding that the country is currently dealing with the context of Ebola virus disease, the 17th outbreak.
