DRC-Angola: a special message on peace from President Tshisekedi to his counterpart Lourenço

Luanda, September 30th, 2026 (CPA).- A special message from the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo regarding the peace process in the east of the country has been transmitted to the Angolan President on Wednesday in Luanda, during an audience granted to the Congolese Minister in charge of Regional Integration, according to a press release.

“The Minister in charge of Regional Integration of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Floribert Anzuluni, has been received on Wednesday in Luanda by the Angolan President Joao Lourenço, to whom he has transmitted a special message from the Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi concerning the peace process in the east of DRC,” it is read. Accompanied by the Head of State’s High Representative, Sumbu Sita, and his delegation, Floribert Anzuluni has travelled to Angola in his capacity as Special Envoy to President Felix Tshisekedi. According to the source, discussions were centred in particular on the progress made in the process of voluntary surrender by the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), through the ‘Protocol on the disarmament, demobilization and cantonment of the FDLR through awareness-raising’.

According to Minister Anzuluni, as Angola is a strategic partner of DRC, it was important to provide President Joao Lourenço with an update on the actions undertaken since the formalization of this protocol, as well as the next steps planned. “DRC is determined to honour the commitments it made under the Washington peace agreements, which have been signed with Rwanda under American mediation. DRC is currently updating its various partners on the significant developments that have taken place since the publication of the protocol on the voluntary surrender of the FDLR, and we are also presenting the roadmap for the next steps. This is an extremely important element at this stage,” he has declared. DRC is counting, to this end, on the support of its regional and international partners to consolidate this momentum until its successful conclusion. “The Congolese government’s objective remains the sustainable restoration of peace, security and stability in eastern DRC and in the Great Lakes region,” the statement has concluded.
