Bunia, July 21st, 2026 (CPA). – The improvement of access to water in healthcare facilities is one of the priorities of the international NGO “Save the Children” as part of its contribution to the response to the Ebola virus disease in Ituri, in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, CPA has learnt on Tuesday during a press briefing. “We have adapted our interventions to the resurgence of the Ebola epidemic in order to support prevention and response efforts. We are currently operating in seven health zones, across 22 health facilities and 33 schools. We are also working to improve access to water in healthcare facilities and to enhance patient care pathways, as without water it is impossible to properly implement the hygiene measures essential for preventing Ebola,” has declared Dr Felix Musikya, head of the “Save the Children” office in Ituri. He has emphasised that, in addition to safe water and sanitation, his organisation is placing particular emphasis on strengthening infection prevention and control (IPC) measures through the training of healthcare providers, teachers and parents’ committees. As part of this initiative, Mr Musikya has explained that his organisation has distributed infection prevention and control kits, as well as personal protective equipment, to the targeted facilities. These actions aim to strengthen the capacity of health and educational facilities in order to limit the risk of the disease spreading and to further protect the communities affected by the epidemic in Ituri, he has specified.
