Kinshasa, November 4th, 2026 (CPA): – MONUSCO has handed over protective equipment against Ebola to the Congolese National Police in Bunia, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in order to limit police officers’ exposure to the virus and to ensure the safety and well-being of the population, according to an official statement consulted on Wednesday by CPA. “With this support, the protection of police officers is assured. Otherwise, how can we guarantee the safety and well-being of the population if we ourselves are exposed? »Ngoy Sengelwa, provincial commissioner of the Congolese National Police in Ituri, has declared. This donation, made through the United Nations Police (UNPOL) component, aims to reduce the risk of virus transmission amongst police officers involved in response operations and local communities. The equipment provided includes, in particular, 500 FFP2/N95 protective masks, 20 infrared thermometers, 100 bottles of hand sanitiser, 125 bottles of disinfectant liquid soap, and ten hand-washing stations, each with a capacity of 100 litres. The batch also includes medical gloves, powdered chlorine, bin bags and awareness-raising materials, including 700 leaflets and 100 posters on Ebola prevention.
Five police units’ beneficiaries
Five units of the Congolese National Police in Ituri have benefited from this support, namely the provincial police station, the Bunia Police Academy, the urban police station, the Mobile Intervention Group (GMI) and the Anti-Crime and Anti-Narcotics Squadron. This equipment will in particular enable the beneficiary units to strengthen their management of checkpoints and their participation in response operations, in coordination with the health authorities. On this occasion, the PNC provincial commissioner has called on the commanders of the beneficiary units to ensure the proper use of the equipment received and compliance with measures to prevent the disease. Through this initiative, MONUSCO intends to continue supporting the Congolese National Police in protecting the population and strengthening its operational capabilities in Ituri province.
