Bunia, September 14th, 2026 (CPA): – Professor Jean-Jacques Muyembe has congratulated the Ebola response team for their efforts in bringing the outbreak under control on Monday during his visit to the Kigonze displacement camp in Bunia, Ituri, in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo “The Democratic Republic of Congo has been on the brink of disaster. We risked being truly isolated, even wiped off the world map, because of this disease. So now, you have shown the courage to bring this outbreak under control, and the population begins to understand, that is the most important point,” has declared Professor Jean-Jacques Muyembe to the Ebola response team. “So, live up to the public’s trust in you; welcome patients in a truly brotherly manner, so that they feel at home and in good hands. That’s it, in good hands. Thank you very much and congratulations,” he has added. Dr Muyembe has implied that the response team has reassured him regarding the gradual containment of the outbreak, a development that deserves to be praised in view of the efforts made in prevention, surveillance, contact tracing and patient care. On this occasion, he has encouraged those involved in the response to maintain their commitment and to build public confidence, in particular by ensuring patients are treated with compassion and receive appropriate care. According to the data presented during this visit, the site comprises 5,055 households with a population of 18,765 people. These statistics have been provided as part of the assessment of the prevention, surveillance, contact tracing and care activities taking place there, it is emphasised.ACP/
