Football: Guy Bukasa appointed head coach of the U23 Leopards

Kinshasa, February 17th, 2026 (CPA).-Coach Guy Bukasa has been appointed head coach of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s under-23 national team, in a decision taken by the Congolese Football Association (Fecofa) and received on Tuesday by CPA. Holder of an ‘A’ licence from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) since 2025, the Congolese coach has first held the position of assistant coach of the Leopards U-17 between 2016 and 2018, before becoming assistant coach of the Leopards U23 under Raul Shungu.

Then, he was also part of the technical staff of the Leopards A’ team competing in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria, as assistant to Otis Ngoma. In 2019, he took a step forward by taking charge of the Leopards U20 as head coach. Under his leadership, DRC has distinguished itself by winning the 2024 UNIFFAC tournament in Brazzaville, a victory that opened the doors to the U20 African Cup of Nations, where the Leopards have advanced to the quarter-finals. They have been eliminated by South Africa after extra time.

Guy Bukasa’s appointment as head of the U23s is therefore in line with a policy of continuity and internal promotion, with the aim of strengthening the bridge between the youth categories and the senior national team. For this new role, Guy Bukasa will be supported by a technical and medical staff comprising: René Tshibangu (Assistant 1); Cedric Makiadi (Assistant 2); Gladys Bokese (fitness coach); Ibrahim Bolafesa (goalkeeping coach); Jose Ntumba (team manager); Samy Katusi (doctor). With this new staff, the U23 Leopards are embarking on a new cycle, focused on performance and preparation for the upcoming continental and Olympic competitions. CPA/
