Kinshasa, February 17th, 2026 (CPA).- A project to beautify and recycle plastic waste has been launched at the Higher Institute of Statistics in Kinshasa (ISS), a higher education institution in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to the account x of the general director of this university institution consulted on Tuesday by CPA.
« The beautification of the Higher Institute of Statistics in Kinshasa (ISS/KIN) is underway (…). We have, notably, launched an initiative on greening the campus with the installation of plants and flower beds. As part of this initiative, we are also encouraging the recycling of plastic bottles, with the aim of gradually introducing a waste sorting system within the Institute, » she has written. According to Professor Aliango, this project benefits from the involvement of all levels of this alma mater, from the management committee to the student community and administrative staff, with a view to improve the attractiveness of the site and the working conditions.
‘This project mobilises our entire community: management committee, administrative and academic staff, as well as the students. Everyone is pitching in to improve our working and learning environment,’ she has said. She has praised the dedication of students who have collected a considerable amount of money to carry out the project. ‘I was particularly touched by the commitment of the students, who have taken the initiative to raise 395,700 FC (approximately 176 USD) to contribute to the beautification efforts. Some of the flowers planted on the site have been purchased thanks to their efforts,’ has emphasised the general director of the ISS. ‘It is these gestures, sometimes modest in appearance, that lead to great achievements. I am proud of this committed and supportive community that works together to help our institution grow,’ she concluded. This environmental initiative is one of the first actions taken by the university’s management committee, which took office last December. CPA/
