Kinshasa, August 27th, 2026 (CPA). – AS Maniema Union of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has defeated AS Otoho of Congo 1-0 on Thursday in Kintele, in the north-east of Brazzaville, in an international friendly match in preparation for the 2026–2027 season, according to the Unionists’ website. After a goalless and disjointed first half, with few clear-cut chances (0–0), the outcome of the match was finally decided after the break. Sharper and more incisive, the Maniema Union players have eventually broken through the opposition’s defence in this legendary derby between the world’s two closest capitals, thanks to the solitary goal scored by striker Soki in the 65th minute. This crucial success has then given to the Maniema Union’s Cameroonian technician (coach), Mauril Mesack, the opportunity to consolidate his leadership and breathe new life into his squad. This strong signal comes on the eve of a major fixture in the Confederation Cup, a competition in which the side intends to realise its highest aspirations. Furthermore, for their first friendly match at Kintele on Tuesday, August 25th, the Unionists have secured a convincing 2–0 victory over Gabon’s AS Manga Sport. This victory, has been achieved thanks to the clinical finishing of Junior Magagula and Israel Ekofo, proving the positive momentum of their pre-season preparations. Exempt from the first round thanks to their strong continental ranking, AS Maniema Union will enter the competition directly in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. The Kindu-based club will face the winner of the match between UNAM FC (Namibia) and Kabuscorp SC (Angola), with the first leg scheduled for October 16th-18th and the second leg for October 23rd -25th, 2026.ACP/
