Groundwork laid for modernization of urban services in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, October 5th, 2026 (CPA).- The groundwork for a cooperation framework in the areas of digitalization, urban mobility and tourism was laid on Monday between the city of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Africell/DRC, as the two sides stepped up dialogue aimed at modernizing urban services. “Kinshasa and Africell/DRC are strengthening their dialogue in support of the modernization of urban services. This introductory meeting made it possible to lay the foundations for a cooperation framework aimed at exploring new avenues of collaboration between the City of Kinshasa and Africell/DRC, particularly in the areas of digitalization, urban mobility and tourism,” said Jésus-Noël Sheke, Provincial Minister of Transport and Urban Mobility, following a working session with the Managing Director of telecommunications company Africell/DRC. On the occasion, Mr. Sheke presented several key projects in which Africell/DRC could position itself as a strategic partner, notably the digitalization of the city’s administration and finances, as well as the development and modernization of parking areas dedicated to motorcycles and taxis. He also discussed the development of the Kin City Guide, a tourist guide to Kinshasa available in both print and digital formats, as well as the memorial tourism program, which provides for the installation of memorial plaques at various historic sites across the capital. “This meeting therefore marks a new step in the search for strategic partnerships between the City of Kinshasa and the private sector, with the aim of accelerating the digital transformation of the administration, improving urban mobility and enhancing the capital’s tourism and historical heritage,” the Provincial Minister concluded.
