Haut-Katanga: Launching of road works covering more than 15 km in Pweto

Lubumbashi, March 22nd, 2026 (CPA) – Construction works on more than 15 kilometers of urban roads in the town of Pweto, Haut-Katanga province (southeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo), have been launched by the acting provincial governor, CPA learned Sunday from official sources.

“The construction of more than 15 kilometers of urban roads in the town of Pweto is in line with the recommendations of the President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, to equip the hinterland of Haut-Katanga with modern and sustainable infrastructure,” said Martin Kazembe, acting governor of Haut-Katanga, during the launch of the works.

The works, which concern three main arteries—Lumumba, Lwenge and Bulangeti avenues—are being carried out by the Road and Drainage Office (OVD) with funding from the provincial government, according to sources. The town of Pweto is a strategic economic hub in the northeast of Haut-Katanga province, serving as a territorial capital and a border area with Zambia. Its economy mainly relies on fishing in Lake Moero, agriculture, and mining activities (Dikulushi, Kapulo).
