Kinshasa, September 21st, 2026 (CPA).- The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo was called upon on Monday, in a statement issued by the Health Sector Trade Union Alliance (ISS) in Kinshasa, to address the concerns of staff and managers in the sector, including, in particular, the issue of pay. “We are insisting on this because the ISS has signed several agreements with the government to resolve the problems faced by healthcare workers and civil servants; we have a framework for dialogue, which includes a supervisory body – that is to say, this interministerial decree requires the ministers involved in resolving healthcare issues to engage with trade unionists in order to avoid any unrest and maintain social peace ”, has stated Jean-Fidèle Boyoo, ISS coordinator, in this statement.
According to him, healthcare workers are dissatisfied because they are not receiving answers to their concerns, notably regarding alignment with the hazard allowance, pay scale adjustments, salary standardisation, permanent appointment, promotion in grade, and the regularisation of administrative procedures, etc.
“We call on the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for the Civil Service and Chief Supervisor of the health sector commissions, to convene a meeting to resolve the problems faced by staff and managers in this sector. Through our letter dated today In this letter, signed by various trade unions, we are giving the government a deadline of three days, or 72 hours; and if there are no satisfactory responses, staff and managers in this sector will take decisive action,” he has insists. It is emphasised that this ultimatum from the health sector trade unions is addressed to the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister in charge of the Civil Service, and the heads of the inter-ministerial committees for the health sector.
The ISS’s national coordination body brings together various trade unions to defend the rights of staff and managers in the health sector. These include, in particular, the National Doctors’ Union (SYNAMED), the Congo Nurses’ Union (SYMECO) and many others. CPA/
