The Congolese franc loses 0.12 per cent of its value at the indicative rate

Kinshasa, September 21st, 2026 (CPA):  – The Congolese franc, the currency of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is slightly depreciated by 0.12 per cent on the indicative market, trading at CDF 2,266.65 to the US dollar, compared with CDF 2,264.00 the previous week, according to statistical data from the Central Bank of Congo (CBC), consulted on Monday.

« At the date of September 21st, 2026, the US dollar was trading at CDF 2,266.65 on the official market, » it is read. According to CBC data, compared with the same period last week – when it stood at CDF 2,264.00 on Monday, September 14th, the national currency has depreciated slightly by CDF 2.65, or 0.12 per cent. Compared with the same period last month, when the dollar stood at 2,283.92 CDF on 21 August according to the BCC, the official rate on September 21st of 2,266.65 CDF represents an appreciation of the national currency by 17.27 CDF, or 0.75 per cent.

This fluctuation remains within the stable range observed by the CBC since early September, between 2,261 and 2,291, and is described as a technical adjustment linked to currency supply and demand, with no significant impact on the parallel market. Furthermore, the statement has indicated that the euro stood at CDF 2,609.54 and the Chinese yuan at CDF 338.36, whilst for the US dollar, the average buying rate fell to CDF 2,215.53 and the selling rate to CDF 2,317.76. To this end, the CBC has called on the public to be vigilant, using official data to verify the accuracy of information published on exchange rates and to exercise caution regarding rates quoted on the market. It has, however, reiterated that these rates are published for guidance only and that foreign exchange transactions are conducted over-the-counter, based on supply and demand. The CBC’s indicative rate is the official benchmark for the entire Congolese economy. It serves as a guide for banks, businesses and importers when setting prices, and enables the government to draw up its budget whilst maintaining macroeconomic stability. CPA/
