Kasenyi, October 5th, 2025 (CPA). – More than 400 households have been displaced from their village ‘Kato’, located in the Beizia group, in the Bahema Sud sector, Irumu territory, in Ituri (north-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo) by the flooding of the Kisege river, CPA has learned on Saturday from an administrative source.
« The village of Kato is currently under water, and as a result more than 400 households have been displaced by the flooding of the Kisege river, which has already destroyed the bridges and the livestock market. We’re in a war for water from this river », has declared Francis Kandole Kiza, head of the Beizia grouping. ‘Previously, we used to live peacefully with this river, but after the geo-seismic studies carried out by the company Oil Congo, this company had made several routes to direct the river’s waters, which have now become uncontrollable and unpredictable’, he has added.
Francis Kandole Kiza has warned that as long as the river Kisege is not restored to its natural bed, several villages are still under threat of disappearing. ‘Three villages, in particular Kasenyi centre, are threatened by the waters if the natural course of this river is not opened up in the near future’, he has specified.
In order to find a lasting solution to this problem, Francis Kandole Kiza has pleaded for the allocation of resources to be given to the Roads Office company to build the infrastructure required to restore the natural bed of the river Kisege. CPA/
