Kasai: Opening of the September ordinary session at the Provincial Assembly

Tshikapa, September 30th, 2026 (CPA).- The September 2026 ordinary session of the Provincial Assembly of Kasai, in the centre of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), essentially focused on the budget, has been opened on Wednesday with an official statement addressed to provincial deputies by the office of the said assembly, has reported CPA.

« On this 30th day of September 2026, it is a real pleasure for your office to wish you a welcome return from the parliamentary recess, a valuable time which has enabled every elected representative to engage with their constituents in order to gather their concerns. Indeed, it is with deep emotion and a sense of dismay that we open this session. Emotion and consternation due to the tragic event that has cost the lives of several officers of our FARDC and our fellow citizens following the plane crash that has occurred in Kenge on September 25th, 2026, plunging the entire Republic into national mourning”, has declared Gedeon Mataba Kamba, Vice-President of the legislative body.

“I would also like to remind you that the ordinary September session is opening in a political context marked by several facts. Among these, I particularly mention the convocation of the national dialogue by the Head of State, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, to whom I pay a heartfelt tribute for the initiative of the national consultations,” he has added. This session being primarily budgetary in nature, he has continued, urging his fellow deputies to show self-sacrifice and dedication so that, in his view, “together we may objectively examine the proposals that will be submitted to us by the provincial executive and, consequently, provide the province with a realistic budget within the timeframe of the law”.

On this note, in the context of the period of mourning across the whole country, has indicated the Vice-President of the Kasai Provincial Assembly, before declaring the opening of the September ordinary session. It should be noted that this session runs from September 30th, to December 31st, 2026, for a period of three months. During this session, provincial elected representatives will approve the budget which will be tabled by the provincial government in the hours following the resumption of parliamentary activities.
