Kasaï Oriental: a memorandum from Miba workers handed over to the provincial authority

Mbuji-Mayi, December 10th, 2025 (CPA).- A memorandum from the collective of children and workers of the Bakwanga Mining Company (Miba) has been delivered on Wednesday at the end of a march to the interim governor of Kasai Oriental, in the centre of the Democratic Republic of Congo, for the payment of eight months of salary arrears, CPA has noticed.

« We, the workers and children of the Bakwanga Mining Company (Miba), gathered this Wednesday, December 10th in the streets of the city of Mbuji-Mayi (…) We have welcomed your courageous decision to release one million US dollars per month for Miba workers (…) However, this clear and solemn presidential promise has not been fulfilled. Today, MIBA workers are owed eight months’ salary arrears, » has read Jean Mayamba Kalombo, spokesperson for the collective of children and employees of Miba.

‘Meanwhile, the families are living in precarious conditions, the children are dropping out of school, the households are breaking up and the workers are living in total abandonment by the state,’ he has added. ‘We respectfully and firmly request the immediate and full payment of eight months of arrears owed to Miba workers by December 20th, 2025, at the latest. We are also demanding the $50 million earmarked for the operational relaunching of Miba,’ the memorandum states.

‘As interim governor, I welcome your initiative and promise to convey your noble demand to the appropriate authorities because your children have a right to education, and you have a right to study,’ has indicated Dr Augustin Kayemba Mulemena, interim governor of Kasai Oriental. CPA/
