Kinshasa: the provincial deputies in DRC claim eight months of salary arrears

Kinshasa, December 10th, 2025 (CPA).- On Wednesday, a group of provincial deputies from the Democratic Republic of Congo claimed eight (8) months of salary arrears during a demonstration organised in front of the Ministry in charge of Finance headquarters in Gombe, a municipality in the north of Kinshasa.

‘We have gathered at the office of the Minister in charge of Finance to claim the arrears in our salaries. We express our deep regret at this unacceptable situation and call for the immediate intervention of the Head of State, who is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of the political and administrative system,’ has declared David Bisaka, spokesperson for the group and Vice-President of the Assembly of Mai-Ndombe, in the south-west of DRC. ‘The Minister in charge of Finance is receiving us not only to listen to our complaints but also to make the payment of our entitlements without conditions. As representatives of the population who trust us, we have a responsibility to maintain our respective bases, especially during this festive period,’ he has added.

« We are disappointed. We are the elected representatives of the people. How is it that the country can afford to give $40 million to a football club like Barcelona, while we, who are part of the sacred union, working for the vision of the Head of State, are minimised and marginalised like little children? Eight months of unpaid wages is not normal. We are calling on the Head of State to intervene and resolve this situation immediately. We remain determined to make our voices heard and defend our rights, » has declared the president of the provincial deputies’ collective, Blanchard Talatela. It should be noted that the provincial deputies of DRC besieged the Prime Minister’s office last year to claim payment for their 11 months’ salaries. CPA/
