Kinshasa, October 5th, 2025 (CPA) .- The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo is arrived on Sunday in Mbuji-Mayi, the chief town of Kasai Oriental province in the centre of the country, to inaugurate a series of public works, including the town’s official university, it is learned from an administrative source. « At last, we have buildings worthy of a university, so it’s a cause for great joy, and we thank the Head of State and all those who have supported him in carrying out this work. Today is a day of celebration, and there’s no way we can expect anything else, » has declared Abbot Apollinaire Cibaka, rector of the official University of Mbuji-Mayi (UOM), one of the structures awaiting inauguration by the Head of State. ‘We are delighted because what is being done here is something exceptional, something great, in a province where a town is being reborn, in a country that is being reborn despite wars and other difficulties’, he has added. The works for its construction, rehabilitation and modernisation, launched on April 19th, 2022 by the former Minister in charge of Higher and University Education (Esu) Muhindo Nzangi, were completed on September 29th this year. The agenda of the President of the Republic also includes a visit to a number of on-going projects, such as the Kalamba-Mbuji road, on which he had launched work in December last year during his last visit to Mbuji-Mayi.

In addition, issues such as the process of relaunching the Bakwanga mine (Miba), the internal security and the fight against the Ebola virus in the Bulape area will also be examined by the Congolese head of state. As he stepped off the plane at Bipemba national airport, President Tshisekedi has been welcomed by the population, the political and administrative authorities and customs authorities of Kasai Oriental, who had been mobilised since the previous day by Jean-Paul Mbuebua, provincial governor. « We owe him our gratitude after the construction of the official University of Mbuji-Mayi. Thanks to him, the face of our province is changing: roads have been modernised, universities built and hospitals rehabilitated. (…) Let’s show him that Kasai Oriental is united, grateful and looking to the future », had declared Mr Mbuebua at a popular rally. On Thursday of last week, the Governor had visited the facilities of the Official University of Mbuji-Mayi (UOM) to reassure himself that the work had been completed and that the conditions had been met for its inauguration by the President of the Republic. « I have come first to visit this wonderful gift that we have today in our province of Kasai Oriental, namely the campus of the Official University of Mbuji-Mayi. The Head of State, who has built this facility for the future of our province’s young people, is arriving shortly for its inauguration. That’s why we have come to see what is needed to prepare for his arrival and make the necessary practical arrangements », he had declared. CPA/
