Kasaï: Starting of a workshop on strengthening female leadership in Tshikapa

Tshikapa, February 2nd, 2026 (CPA).– Strengthening female leadership was the focus of discussions at the launch on Monday in Tshikapa, the capital of Kasai province in the center of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), of a workshop for members of civil society. “This five-day workshop, running from Monday, February 2nd  to Friday, February 6th, 2026, comes at a time when women in Kasai are facing many challenges, including customary barriers, gender-based violence, and limited access to resources,” said Eveline N’Butu, gender officer for the She Lead project. According to her, the objective is to increase women’s political participation in elections, strengthen their role as community leaders, and develop policies that respond to the needs and interests of women in Kasai province.

Participants will acquire the skills necessary to become key players in the province’s development, said Ms. N’Butu.

The She Lead program is implemented by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) as part of the “Ndeke” project, which aims to promote women’s political participation and strengthen their role in electoral and decision-making processes in the DRC. The participants are women politicians, members of civil society, young women, and girls from Kasai.
