Kinshasa, November 19th, 2025 (CPA) . – Fifty-one (51) people suspected of rape, extortion, and assault were arrested on Wednesday by police during an operation called “Kanga Kanga” carried out in Kingabwa, a neighborhood in the municipality of Limete, in central Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. “I conducted a door-to-door foot patrol in Kingabwa, considered a hot spot. At the end of this operation, 51 people, including one woman, were arrested on the basis of numerous complaints filed with the provincial police station,” said Divisional Commissioner Israël Kantu, commander of the Congolese National Police in the city of Kinshasa (PNC). View of Divisional Commissioner Israël Kantu hunting down criminals

According to Mr. Kantu, these individuals are suspected of rape, extortion, and knife attacks, perpetrated under the helpless gaze of local residents. Their arrest was welcomed by local residents and prominent figures, including Senator Gérard Mulumba, who was present at the scene and also encouraged the provincial commissioner’s action. “I ask the parents of Kingabwa to educate their children. This operation will not stop here. We will return until peace is restored,” added Mr. Kantu, deploring the recidivism of certain offenders who, after being released by the courts, resume their criminal activities.

» The population must know that this crackdown is proof that Operation Kanga Kanga, launched at the end of October to reinforce Operation Ndobo, is not just a slogan, but an expression of the clear determination of the Provincial Police Headquarters of the PNC/Kinshasa to secure the people of Kinshasa and their property, especially with the approach of the end-of-year festivities, » he said. On October 31st, 2025, the divisional commissioner of the Congolese capital’s police force announced that the hunt for urban bandits would “from now on” be conducted door-to-door in order to restore public order in the city of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
