Kinshasa: A workshop to help resolve traffic jams announced in January

Kinshasa, December 16th, 2025 (CPA).- A workshop to help resolve traffic jams in the city of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been announced for January 15th, 2026, at the University of Kinshasa (Unikin), according to administrative sources on Tuesday.

‘The University of Kinshasa will organise a workshop before January 15th, drawing on the expertise of the Ministry in charge of Higher and University Education to help resolve traffic congestion in Kinshasa,’ has declared Jean-Marie Kayembe, the rector of the alma mater. Taking advantage of this handover ceremony between the incoming and outgoing committees, Mr Kayembe has also announced that the fight against unsanitary conditions on campus and in the city is also on the agenda.

Having been reappointed for a new term as head of this higher education institution, Jean-Marie Kayembe called on the new management committee of the inspired hill to show consistency and cohesion in order to meet the many challenges facing this institution. ‘It is through consistency and cohesion that we will be able to take Unikin where it needs to be. We must work together to meet all challenges, including the complete digitisation of university management, particularly archives identified as an urgent priority for safeguarding fragile documentary heritage,’ he has insisted. ‎

Mr Kayembe has urged the incoming management committee to weigh up the responsibilities that now fall to each member, while emphasising collective action and offering prayers for the people of the east of the country who have been victims of attacks. ‎In addition, the rector of the inspired hill paid tribute to the outgoing management committee for its commitment to transforming the university campus. ‘We are not eternal, it is through continuity that great things are achieved,’ he has concluded.
