Kinshasa, September 23rd, 2026 (CPA).- Calm was restored on Wednesday in two neighbourhoods in the commune of N’Sele, east of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, following three days of clashes between young people that left one person dead, with three suspects arrested, the mayor of the municipality told the CPA on Wednesday. “We came to the area to assess the situation, listen to the local people and take steps to restore peace permanently in these neighbourhoods. The clashes, which took place from Sunday 20 to Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026, had created a climate of anxiety amongst the residents of Ngina and Mibu 1,” has declared Franck Mbo, mayor of the commune of N’Sele. The municipal authority visited the scene, accompanied by law enforcement officers, to assess the situation and speak with residents.
According to him, these discussions enabled them to gather several accounts of the circumstances leading to the clashes. The police subsequently arrested three suspects believed to be involved in the incidents.
Among those arrested was an individual found in possession of a Congolese National Police (PNC) uniform. Officials at the N’Sele Urban CIAT stated that they did not recognise this person as a member of their force.
“We will personally follow up on this case and refer it to the courts so that the full truth can be established regarding this person’s identity and the circumstances under which they came to be in possession of this uniform,” has said Mr Mbo.
Establishment of a joint security post in the area
To prevent any potential resurgence of violence and to strengthen security, a joint post comprising members of the Republican Guard (GR) and the Congolese National Police (PNC) has been set up in the affected area.
“The presence of this unit should enable the population to regain a sense of peace and go about their business freely. We also ask residents to cooperate with the security services,” has added the mayor. This intervention forms part of the measures taken by the municipal authorities to strengthen security in several neighbourhoods of the commune of N’Sele, notably in Bibwa and Badara. Residents of Ngina and Mibu 1 have been urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity that could disrupt public order to the relevant authorities.
