Kinshasa, June 18th, 2026 (CPA).- The Governor of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has encouraged the national football team, the Leopards, to bring more victories to the Congolese people following their 1-1 draw against Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a video statement from City Hall received by CPA on Thursday. “We are happy and proud of our players. Once again today, they have written a new chapter in our country’s history. Not only have we returned to the World Cup, but we have also scored our first-ever goal in the competition. This result fills us with joy and hope. We encourage our Leopards to keep up the momentum and bring us more victories in the upcoming matches,” said Kinshasa Governor Daniel Bumba. The city authority also seized the opportunity to call on Kinshasa residents to celebrate the achievement in a calm and responsible manner. “Let us remain focused on the matches ahead, because we know our Leopards can still surprise us, just as they did today. Many expected a defeat, but our team rose to the occasion,” he added. Daniel Bumba stressed that the DRC continues to write remarkable chapters in its sporting history. “Following our return to the World Cup, we are now enjoying another moment of national pride,” he continued.
