Kinshasa, April 28th, 2026 (CPA).- The Solidarity Union of Nurses of Congo (SOLSICO) has held, on Tuesday, a national congress at the Kimbanguist Reception Centre, located in the municipality of Kasa-Vubu, in the centre of the Congolese capital, with a view to elect a new executive committee and to strengthen the union’s legitimacy. “Today marks the official opening of our national congress, in accordance with the provisions of our statutes. This major trade union gathering must mark a decisive turning point. It must lead us to rethink our commitment by incorporating sustainable economic initiatives.
It is in this spirit that I declare the proceedings of the national congress open, with the ambition of building a more autonomous and forward-looking organisation. It also coincides with the meeting of the National Executive Council, and we have planned three days of intensive work, during which delegates will examine the key issues relating to the life of our organisation,” has declared Mr Anaclet Shisho, acting General Secretary of SOLSICO. The source has made it known that, during these proceedings; there will be a thorough evaluation of activities, whilst charting new prospects for the future of the Solidarity Union of Nurses of the Congo (SOLSICO). “This framework offers us the opportunity to strengthen our cohesion and improve our trade union action for the benefit of all members. This organisation has been in existence for 36 years since the initiative of the late President Joseph Mobutu,” he has added. He has emphasised that the final day of the congress will be devoted to organising elections, which will lead to the establishment of a new committee headed by a general secretary. This committee will have the heavy responsibility of leading SOLSICO’s activities for five years, in line with our vision and our commitments to healthcare professionals.
“This congress is a key moment for our organisation, as it allows us to bring together representatives from different provinces to discuss the realities on the ground. It is also an opportunity to give a voice to nurses, who often face numerous difficulties in the practice of their profession,” he has said. “Through this work, we want not only to strengthen the structure of our union, but also to lay the foundations for more effective and visible action. We expect the future executive committee to be fully committed to defend the interests of members and to promote decent working conditions for all nurses in DRC,” Mr Shisho has continued.
