Kinshasa: over 50 women screened free of charge for gynaecological diseases

Kinshasa, April 12th, 2026 (CPA). – More than fifty (50) women have been screened free of charge on Saturday in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, for gynaecological diseases as part of the prevention of infertility in couples, during the launching of the 14th edition of the gynaecological campaign organised by La Une, CPA has learned on Sunday from an association source. “More than 50 women and girls from the municipality of N’sele have been screened free of charge for gynaecological diseases and infertility,” has declared Ms Esther Ntumba, president of the “Joest Média” Foundation.

According to her, the gynaecological diseases in question are notably endometriosis, which is a major cause of infertility, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as breast and cervical cancers. She has explained that the decision to call upon Professor Antoine Modia arose because the population lives in a remote area, where there are cases of 12-year-old girls who have already given birth, as well as unprotected sexual intercourse.

“This poses a danger. It is very difficult to maintain good health under these conditions,” she has aid. The president of the “Joest Média” Foundation has indicated that this campaign has been an opportunity to engage with women, who said they were moved to have learnt so much, particularly about the early stages of breast and cervical cancer. Furthermore, Professor Antoine Modia has explained that a key focus of this campaign is the fight against infertility. “We went as far as the remotest villages surrounding Kinshasa. We are open: if there are young people with problems, our clinics are accessible. We offer them the opportunity to undergo free pre-clinical examinations and receive treatment at a rate tailored to their circumstances. This is a dedicated month to ensure all women can benefit,” he has continued. Professor Modia has emphasised that the 14th edition of this campaign began on March 14th and will conclude on April 14th. The “Joest Média” Foundation, established in 2023, works in several areas, notably supporting young mothers and widows. It offers them training in trades that enable them to develop and become self-reliant.
