Kinshasa: Premiere of “Proudly Ndundu” film scheduled for June 13th, 2027

Kinshasa, October 7th, 2026 (CPA).- The premiere of the documentary film “Proudly Ndundu — A Long March Towards Dignity” is scheduled for June 13th, 2027 in Kinshasa, with a view to helping change perceptions of people living with albinism in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the film’s director announced to CPA on Wednesday. “The premiere of the film ‘Proudly Ndundu — A Long March Towards Dignity’ is scheduled for June 13th, 2027.

This film focuses on the struggle to change perceptions of people living with albinism in the DRC,” said Yan Mambo, director and founder of the NGO ‘Plus de Couleurs’.

According to him, the documentary traces the different stages of a decade-long struggle for the visibility, inclusion and acceptance of people living with albinism in Congolese society.

The film notably looks back at the journeys of several activists involved in this struggle, including Mwimba Texas and Ilunga Police Belge, presented as pioneers, as well as the emergence of a new generation of actors working in this field.

Mambo noted that this mobilization also helped change the perception of the term “Ndundu”, which had long been associated with rejection and stigma.

“Pioneers such as Mwimba Texas, Ilunga Police Belge and a new generation of actors have helped transform the word ‘Ndundu’, once associated with rejection, into a symbol of pride and dignity. Through archival material and testimonies, the film tells the story of a collective struggle for visibility, inclusion and self-acceptance,” he explained.

Through archival material and testimonies, the production seeks to preserve the memory of this struggle and highlight the progress made in terms of representation and inclusion. Produced by Ours Blanc Prod, the documentary will be premiered on June 13th, 2027, the date dedicated to International Albinism Awareness Day. ACP/
