Kinshasa, February 15th, 2026 (CPA).- An artistic performance exploring the cultural ties between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Haiti, through an overview of the deportation of African ancestors, has been presented on Saturday evening at the ‘Haiti 221’ festival in the north of Kinshasa. “This performance on the cultural link between Haiti and DRC, I have presented it on water. I have wanted to explain that water could not kill our ancestors deported to the other side. Certainly, they left a long time ago and disappeared in a way, but water did not swallow them up: the ancestors are still alive. The proof is the presence of our brothers from Haiti here today. This means that even though some have left, a life and a population continue to exist, » has declared the performer Sarah Ndele. « Haiti is a people colonised before 1800 who today face situations of delinquency and war. Here in Congo, we also know war. For a long time, we have believed that we were separated because our cultures have evolved differently, but the link is gradually being formed. It is as if we are trying to rediscover the lost thread with those who have left, » she has added. For this first edition of the ‘Haiti 221’ festival, several cultural activities are on the programme, including meetings between Congolese and Haitian artists. This first edition is supported by the Afrika Diva artistic collective, led by artist Orakle Ngoie, in which several Congolese talents will present various performances. ACP/
