Kinshasa, September 2nd, 2025 (CPA) .- Six (6) alleged urban bandits and seven (7) armed criminals have been arrested during a police operation on Monday night in Selembao, a municipality in the central part of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, we have learned from an administrative source.
« We have arrested six (6) reputed Kuluna (urban bandits) and seven (7) armed criminals. The operation has begun the day before yesterday and has continued yesterday night until the early hours of this Tuesday. We have been alerted by the population of Avenue Mpanzu, in the Kienge district, where the occupants of a plot of land had been threatened by armed criminals. The police has intervened and arrested two of them », has declared Matthias Womumu, burgomaster of Selembao. « We have placed all the gangsters arrested at the disposal of the criminal police because three of the criminals arrested are wearing police uniforms. They have been recognised by a couple who had been savagely molested by the same police officers, who are also their customers because they used to come and drink in their bar every day », he has added.
According to explanations obtained by the burgomaster Womumu from the victim couple, whose the husband is in hospital, the three alleged criminal police officers have extorted valuable goods, including telephones and a large sum of money, from their victims. « They are now at the disposal of the criminal police. Our mission was to arrest them. I would like to congratulate the people of Selembao for their cooperation, and I hope that this will continue so that we can put an end to all these criminals who are at the root of the insecurity in our neighbourhoods », he has indicated. He has also congratulated the police on the ‘total’ success of their intervention.
« Today was a complete success. I congratulate the police because it has been very effective on the ground. It was around two (2) o’clock when we have been alerted. The territorial police and the police from the intervention group arrived on the scene, they were able to arrest a number of criminals », has concluded the burgomaster of Selembao. CPA/
