Kinshasa: The arrival of ‘Pedals for Peace’ expected on Wednesday at the People’s Palace

Kinshasa, August 4th, 2026 (CPA). – The official arrival in Kinshasa of the ‘Pedals for Peace’ initiative, led by a Congolese cyclist following a journey across Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from east to west to promote peace, is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5th, at the People’s Palace, according to a press release consulted on Tuesday by CPA.

“On May 1st, 2026, I have left Goma with a bicycle, a flag and a conviction: peace is possible. Today, I have just reached the gates of Kinshasa after travelling thousands of kilometres. I have become the first Congolese person to officially cross DRC from east to west by bicycle, not for personal glory, but to carry a message of peace, unity and hope,” has declared Miguel Masaisai. According to the source, this journey across the country has been accomplished despite damaged roads, mountainous relief and fatigue, demonstrating that determination allows us to rise up the most ambitious challenges. The initiator of ‘Pedals for Peace’ considers that this expedition helps to promote a positive image of Democratic Republic of Congo by putting ahead the courage, resilience and capacity of Congolese people to achieve actions that bring hope and national cohesion.

To mark the official arrival of this expedition, cyclists, athletes, young people, families and all citizens committed to the values of peace are invited to participate in a cycle ride starting from the municipality of Maluku and ending at the People’s Palace. Miguel Masaisai has indicated that this stage in Kinshasa does not constitute the culmination of his project, announcing a new phase that will soon lead the initiative across the African continent to Rabat, in order to continue promoting peace, unity and solidarity amongst African peoples. Launched on May 1st, 2026, in Goma, in Nord-Kivu province, the ‘Pedals for Peace’ initiative aims to use cycle riding as a tool to raise awareness of peace, national cohesion and resilience. It comes in a context where the Democratic Republic of Congo still faces the consequences of armed conflicts in its eastern region.
