Bunia, August 4th, 2026 (CPA). –A new 100-bed Ebola Treatment Centre (ETC) has been inaugurated on Tuesday during a ceremony held on the outskirts of Bunia, the provincial principal city of Ituri in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, by the military governor and the General Director of Africa CDC.
“There was a shortage of beds in Ituri Province. International Medical Corps (IMC), which works closely with the Ministry in charge of Health, has deemed it necessary to open 100 additional beds on top of those already in place to ensure better care for patients affected by Ebola,” has declared Abdouze Bushuche, supervisor of the international NGO “International Medical Corps”, following the ceremony. According to him, this new facility is intended to accommodate patients from across the province. “This Ebola treatment centre, located within the grounds of Rwankole Hospital, will serve the whole of Ituri province. The people affected by Ebola can be admitted there to receive appropriate care,” he has explained.
Mr Bushuche has also called on the public to follow the preventive measures recommended by the Ministry in charge of Health to break the chain of transmission of the virus. “Ebola is an epidemic that spreads from person to person. It is everyone’s responsibility to follow the recommended measures, in particular washing their hands regularly, avoiding any contact with sick people and with the bodies of those who have died from unknown causes, so that together we can stop the transmission of this disease in Ituri province,” he has emphasised. The opening of this CTE on the grounds of Rwankole Hospital, made possible by funding from the US government, forms part of efforts to strengthen the health response in Ituri, where health authorities and their partners are continuing their efforts to improve patient care and curb the spread of the epidemic.
