Kinshasa: the ban on motorcyclists to operate on certain roads, a loss of revenue (President of a transporters’ association)

Kinshasa, November 26th, 2025 (CPA) – The ban on motorcyclists to operate on certain roads in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, represents a loss of revenue, the president of a transporters’ association has indicated on Wednesday to CPA, after the publication of the circular note concerning specific measures for the circulation of motorbikes. ‘“The fact of banning motorcyclists from operating on certain roads in Kinshasa also represents a loss of revenue for many because they are also taxpayers in the same way as the vehicle owners,” has declared Jeremy Kabongo, president of the Association of Honest Motorcyclists of Congo (Amico). « While it’s true that these measures are aimed at making road traffic more fluid, I believe that the best way to combat traffic jams is to build new roads. As long as there are no new roads, we will always be faced with this problem », he has pointed out. Mr Kabongo has, to this end, urged his members to comply with new measures to regulate traffic in the Congolese capital. « I call on all motorcyclists to comply with the new measures taken by the provincial Minister in charge of Transport to regulate motorcyclists on certain main arteries in the city of Kinshasa. This is a decision taken by the authorities, and we can only respect it », he has said. On November 25th, 2025, the Association of motorcyclists of Kinshasa had undertaken to raise awareness among its members of the need to respect the demarcation of routes, following the publication on Monday evening of the aforementioned circular note. « I am committed to raise awareness among the members of our association of the need to respect the established traffic zones. This is something we have always done, spoken from time to time. We’re always urging motorcyclists and we’re going to raise their awareness so that they can respect the decision taken and the law that has been passed in this regard », had indicated Jean-Marie Kasongo, president of this association bringing together this category of transporters.
