Kinshasa: The benefits of good project management explained to young people

Kinshasa, July 8th, 2025 (CPA) – The benefits of good project management were explained to around 30 young people in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), at the close on Tuesday of a training course held from Saturday 5 to 8 July 2025 on transforming local problems into projects that deliver solutions. « The benefits of good project management consist firstly in the optimization of resources, i.e. the efficient use of human, financial and material resources, and secondly in meeting deadlines and budgets, project quality, and better communication and collaboration. This means improving communication between team members and stakeholders, » said Gabriel Lomengo Shango, president of the Network of Professional Entrepreneurship Coaches of Congo (Recopec).

‘Agile methods are also part of the benefits of good project management. This involves flexibility and adaptation to change, as well as rapid iterations,’ he added, before emphasizing that project management is a set of skills and practices aimed at ensuring the success of projects by optimizing resources, meeting deadlines and achieving set objectives.

‘The aim of this training is to teach young people to identify a concrete problem and transform it into a project idea that offers solutions,’ said Mr Lomengo. According to Mr Lomengo, the aim of this training was to develop young people’s skills, structure them, promote and present their projects in a methodical, clear and impactful way, and strengthen their oral communication and argumentation skills through the exercise of pitching (summarizing an idea or scenario intended to convince others of its value). ‘This training session also serves as a practical workshop on project presentation, based on real problems identified, in the form of a structured pitch. The educational objectives of this stage are to equip young people with the tools to transform a local problem into a clear, relevant and convincing project idea,’ he explained. ‘From identifying the problem to the final presentation, they explored the key stages in the life cycle of a project. They also learned how to use essential tools (budget, timetable, risk analysis) and how to pitch effectively to partners or donors. It was a practical, enriching and inspiring training course for young people who are shaping their own future,’ he added. This three-day training course was organized by the non-profit organization ‘Congo Youth Coalition’ at the Bandalungwa community Center in the center of the Congolese capital.
