Kinshasa: the burgomaster of Lemba arrests two young people for selling unsafe water

Kinshasa, March 3rd, 2026 (CPA).- Two young boys have been arrested, on Tuesday, for selling unsafe water by the burgomaster of Lemba, in the centre of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, during a raid carried out in the Gombele neighbourhood of this municipality. « The two persons that we have arrested are trading in unfit water in jerry cans for distribution to the population, which can cause several fatal diseases. It has been a long time since these practices have existed. Today, I am determined to go down with the Environment Service, the General Direction of Migration, the Intelligence Service and the police to shut down this factory and the person who manufactures untreated water, » has declared Jean Serge Poba, burgomaster of Lemba. ‘We are doing this to protect our environment and the people of Kinshasa from pollution, as well as to eliminate anyone who engages in bad practices,’ he has added. Mr Poba has affirmed: ‘‘filling jerry cans for commercial purposes is harmful to the health of the people of Lemba and Kinshasa in general. This cannot be done here in Lemba, and that is why the law must be enforced to resolve these issues. » He also called on the population to participate in this fight by reporting any production sites, before warning those who continue to engage in such activities that the State is there to resolve this issue.
