Kinshasa: ‘the dry season officially underway despite some usual rainfall’ (Head of Division at the Meteorological Centre)

Kinshasa, June 15th, 2025 (CPA).- The Democratic Republic of Congo is officially entered in the dry season on May 25th, despite some usual rainfall recorded in the megalopolis, has indicated on Sunday the head of division at the National Meteorological Centre and head of forecasting at METTELSAT during an interview.  ‘The dry season has been officially underway since May 25th, 2025. We are, of course, recording some unusual rainfall, but this does not invalidate the effective start of this period,’ has declared Mr Auguste Tagisabo, head of division at the National Meteorological Centre. According to him, these rains are linked to moist air masses coming from the north-west, particularly from the Gulf of Guinea, which carry clouds to the western part of the DRC, namely Kinshasa, Kwilu and Kikwit. During this period, we would not normally see this type of extensive cloud cover. However, these external meteorological phenomena are temporarily disrupting the normal dry season pattern. « This phenomenon is what we commonly refer to as a female dry season, when rains appear sporadically at the beginning of the season. If this phenomenon persists for several weeks, we will be able to confirm this type of anomaly. But for now, we are still at the beginning of the season and in the midst of observation, » has explained Mr Tagisabo. According to this expert, this phenomenon is not linked to climate change. ‘Of course, climate change is a global reality, but it is also important to understand that the climate is naturally dynamic. This type of variation can occur even independently of global climate change.’ While waiting for atmospheric conditions to stabilise, the Meteorological Centre recommends that the population take precautions against the usual effects of the dry season, including cold, dust and certain health risks.
