‘It is with immense joy and a deep sense of respect that I stand before you today to celebrate African Women’s Day together. A day dedicated to paying tribute to, recognising and valuing the fundamental role that African women play in building our societies everywhere,’ she has said.

‘Today, we raise our voices, not only to celebrate, but to affirm loud and clear the power of African women, that quiet, resilient, visionary force that has shaped our continent for generations through courage, dignity and the pursuit of peace,’ she has added. Peace and security can only be sustainably established in societies where women and men have equal rights and opportunities. Women are disproportionately affected by conflicts, but they also have an essential role to play in resolving them and preventing their recurrence. ACP/
