Brazzaville, May 28th, 2026 (CPA).- The singer Koffi Olomide, a rumba legend in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been received on Thursday at the presidential palace in Brazzaville by the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou N’guesso, ahead of his concert scheduled for June 6th in the Congolese capital, CPA has learnt from the artist.
“I had the great honour of being received today by the Father of the Nation and by His Excellency the Prime Minister,” the artist has confirmed at the end of the meeting. Pleased with the outcome of the discussions, the leader of the Quartier Latin International orchestra has invited music lovers from both sides of the Congo River to a spectacular evening event scheduled for June 6th at the Radisson Hotel in Brazzaville. According to his schedule, immediately after Brazzaville, the Congolese rumba singer will return to Kinshasa to begin preparations for his major concert event announced for July 12th at the Brussels Stadium in Belgium. “I look forward to seeing you on July 12th at the King Baudouin Stadium (…)”, he has said. For Koffi Olomide, this stage production dedicated to the celebrations of his 70th birthday will be a reunion to celebrate a career marked by global successes and international accolades, centred on music which, in his view, carries Congolese identity far beyond its borders.
Born on July 13th, 1956, in Stanleyville, Belgian Congo (now Kisangani), Koffi Olomide—whose real name is Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba—is a singer-songwriter and producer. He has begun his artistic career as a lyricist for several Congolese musicians, notably the late Papa Wemba. To this day, the artist is regarded as a legend of Congolese and African music. In terms of recordings, the leader of the Quartier Latin International orchestra has released several albums, such as “Bal des Vacanciers”, “Henriquet”, “Diva”, “Force de frappe”, “Danger de mort” and many others.
