Kinshasa, May 28th, 2026 (CPA).- The securing and ensuring women’s equitable access to land ownership, finance and employment have been recommended as necessary reforms to guarantee women’s access to this sector, during a conference on women’s leadership in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
There are reforms needed today to guarantee women’s access to land, including, amongst other things, security and equitable access to land ownership, to land for cultivation, possession and control, because Congolese law does not provide for any discrimination,” has declared Marie-Claude Kazal, General Director of the National Fund for the Promotion of Women and the Protection of Children (FONAFEN). “There is a need for more women in the land administration service, customary recognition, legal protection of land and gender equality,” she has added.
Ms Kozal has explained that among the reforms are also simplification and transparency to ensure women’s access to land. “Women need to digitise their land titles and the mapping of their land,” she has said. For her part, the president of Kiongozi wa Tamani, Tahirih Souzane, has explained that this conference aims to analyse obstacles, share best practices and inspire new dynamics for truly transformative women’s leadership. “It is imperative to create a space for dialogue, exchange and mobilisation to identify solutions and strengthen collective action in favour of gender justice,” has indicated Tahirih Souzane. This event is organised by the organisation “Kiongozi wa Thamani asbl” for women, women’s rights activists and youth leaders to promote interaction and dialogue.
